Hats made from real flowers

flower-hat-interfloraThere is a new trend of incorporating flowers into clothing and accessories, especially in hats and fascinators.

Fashionistas are wearing hats made entirely of flowers to give a colourful, natural accent to their outfits.

Floral hats look great paired with a simple outfit and some jewellery in similar colours to the flowers used.

When made properly, one of these hats could last a whole evening and would certainly make a huge impact.

Take a look at the pictures of the hats made by some of our florists taken at the RHS Flower Show Tatton Park 2011- they are gorgeous, aren’t they?

Interflora florist Neil Whittaker, from The Design Element in Irlam, made a floral hat as part of the Florist of the Year 2011 competition, which he went on to win. The brief was to make a hat for a cottage garden.

Neil says: “This was quite a challenge because you had to make the hat wearable and think about cottage garden flowers. How will they last throughout the day? Will they stand up?”

Neil used sandersonia, marigolds and, further into the design, there are some spray roses. He says: “I made a ring out of wire to give it a three dimensional look and the bow is made out of hessian.”
